4th Grade Enjoyed the Week at The Louisville Zoo

The 4th grade team devoted last week to an excursion outside the classroom in the “School at the Zoo” program, a hands and minds-on interdisciplinary experience for students led cooperatively by both zoo educators and Collegiate teachers.

Working alongside Debbie Patrick, Melissa Martin, Bill Flinn and Beth Ewen, zoologists and other educators from the Louisville Zoo offered lessons, often with zoo wildlife on hand, on different ecosystems and distinct animal features and behaviors. Students kept a journal tracking their discoveries for the week. Ms. Martin devotes several weeks leading up to the week at the zoo to introducing life science concepts in the classroom, and students then get to apply and experiment with those ideas as they explore the zoo.
