Teacher Workshop by Alina Filipescu

100% Comprehensible, 90% Target Language from Day 1

In this workshop, Alina will share the details that help create 90% Comprehensible, Compelling, and Contextualized Target Language even in the beginning language classroom.  Teachers will leave with ideas about PQA topics and CI skills that will help with delivery of lessons.  Other topics discussed include assigning rejoinders as classroom jobs and as passwords, embedding gestures and movement throughout the lesson, teaching students the skill of circumlocution, and ultimately creating community.  In addition, Alina will discuss how she teaches a class novel and the implementation of a reading SSR/FVR program with a glimpse into student opinion and reflection.  This reading program doesn’t just require a library of books, but student motivation and buy-in, student education on how to choose comprehensible books, and accountability that doesn’t translate into more homework.
