head of school
We are pleased and honored to introduce Robert P. Macrae, Ed.D., as the 15th Head of Louisville Collegiate School.
Dr. Macrae brings more than 30 years of experience in independent school leadership to Collegiate, including 14 years of experience in Head of School positions at Cincinnati Country Day School and New Canaan Country School.
A life-long educator, Dr. Macrae earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics/Computer Science from Wesleyan University, and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Teachers College – Columbia University. He continued to follow his passion for education by earning a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University’s School of Education, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
Dr. Macrae began his independent school career at his alma mater, The Pingry School in Martinsville, New Jersey, where he served as Head of the Upper School, Head of the Middle School, and Assistant Headmaster. In 2004, he was appointed Head of School at Cincinnati Country Day School, a position he held for 11 years. Following his highly successful tenure at Cincinnati Country Day, he was appointed Head of School at New Canaan Country School in New Canaan, Connecticut. He currently serves as Associate Head for Strategic Integration at Greenwich Country Day School, Greenwich, Connecticut.
Dr. Macrae’s appointment comes after an extensive 11-month search, during which the Search Committee sought to maintain a transparent and inclusive process. With the support of our search partner, Diversified Search, the Committee gathered the input of parents, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and the entire Collegiate Community in developing a Position Description Statement which defined the key criteria and competencies desired in our next Head of School. During the recent finalist visits, our community actively engaged with the candidates in group forums and one-on-one meetings. Feedback was gathered from parents, students, faculty, administrators and alumni through an online survey, through which we received an abundance of insightful input and comments.
In November 2018, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Search Committee’s unanimous recommendation of Dr. Macrae as the next Head of School, effective July 1, 2019. We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Macrae and his wife Lynn back to the Midwest, a place they look on with great fondness, as they raised their four children in Ohio.
