Collegiate Students Participate in the PGA Junior League

Several Collegiate students spent the summer playing golf on the PGA Junior League. These students braved the heat and had a lot of fun playing in matches around the state.

Liam O’Grady ’25 played on the PGA Junior League for Big Springs Country Club. He won several tournaments shooting a 35 at Nevel Meade, 36 at Gibson Bay, and a 36 at Seneca Golf Course. He played in the Falls City Match Play Championship and lost in the finals. He also played with the U.S. Kids Golf and finished second overall for the Spring Golden Triangle Tour and lost in the championships in a playoff with a score of 79. Liam was selected for the Junior PGA All-Stars team.

Jacob Holzer ’26 played on the PGA Junior League for Hurstbourne Country Club. He was selected to play in the Varsity match for the 2018 PGA Junior League All-Star team and was the second youngest member of the team (13 and under age group). Jacob also played in the PGA Junior League fall season. He played in the championship and finished with a tie for first. In the final playoff, Jacob lost in a sudden-death finishing in second place.

Liam and Jacob both played in the Varsity match for the PGA Junior League All-Star team during the Kentucky All-Star Weekend. The team won the KY State Tournament against 16 other teams and then went on to compete at the regional championships in Mississippi finishing third.

Miles McClure ’27 played on the PGA Junior League for Wildwood Country Club. He was instrumental in helping his team win several matches. Miles was selected for the 2018 PGA Junior League All-Star team. He also won the Junior Club Championship in his age group and won the MVP award for his accomplishments at Wildwood.

Heidi Mitchell ’27 played on the PGA Junior League for Big Springs Country Club. She did a great job in helping her team win several matches. She also won first place at the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship local qualifier in her age group for her drive. She was selected for the 2018 PGA Junior League All-Star team.

Miles and Heidi both played in the JV match for the 2018 Derby City PGA Junior League All-Star team during the Kentucky All-Star Weekend. They helped secure a victory over the River City Sluggers with a score of 6 ½ to 5 ½.
