Arts

The Visual and Performing Arts at Louisville Collegiate School is a vibrant and integral part of the educational experience for all Collegiate students. Students are mentored and guided through an imaginative and experiential process by ten teaching artists who have a passion for and expertise in their fields of visual art, contemporary and classical instrumental music, vocal music, theatre, technical theatre, speech and communication, dance, and art history.

The Arts impact and enrich student life every day on the Collegiate campus. Our Lower School Arts programming ignites a curiosity for the arts while laying the important foundational groundwork. The Middle School curriculum offers a real depth of exploration grounded in craft and technique.

All this equips the Upper School student with the confidence and knowledge to pursue their passion for a specific area or discipline in the Fine and Performing Arts during their years in the Upper School.

Our thoughtful and intentional curriculum marshals the classroom experience to create over twenty-five performances, concerts, gallery showings, classroom culminating events each year, inclusive of an annual spring Fine Arts Showcase. Collegiate artists also find acceptance into such prestigious programs as the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts, the Indiana Jacobs School of Music Virtuosi, and local professional theatre companies. They earn recognition as National Gold Key Recipients for the Visual Arts.

The real value of the Arts Programming at Louisville Collegiate School is that a student may train to become an artist and pursue his or her passion at the University level or he or she may simply explore the arts to live more artfully, letting that knowledge inform and support work in other areas of study at University level. At Collegiate, we believe in the quote uttered by Elbert Hubbard, “Art is not a thing; it is a way.”
