Come join a very hungry caterpillar, a brown bear, a very quiet cricket, a seahorse and ten rubber duckies! All of Eric Carle’s beloved characters will be front and center in this week full of wonderful stories and imaginative art based on the acclaimed author’s works. Join third-grade teacher Debra Cohn as we celebrate our favorite Eric Carle stories. Maybe someone can actually cheer up that old grouchy ladybug!

 

Science Celebrations

Would you like to learn how to make a bubble bigger than your head or see a balloon expand when a solid and a liquid combine? There will be something for everyone in this celebration of hands-on science led by Collegiate science teacher Betsy Stern. Race a soap powered mini-boat, hunt for fossils, and enjoy many other activities from the fun side of science. 

 

Paint Like an Impressionist

Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cassatt…these 19th century painters rocked the art world with their colorful paintings of French life! The famous men and women of the Impressionist era will inspire our youngest  artists this summer to go outside and “paint an impression of the light and color of the moment.” We will work with watercolors, tempera, and oil pastels to recreate some of the most famous Impressionist paintings! Come join Collegiate 1st grade teacher and art enthusiast, Heidi Blackburn, for an amazing week. 

 

Sports Stars

Calling all young athletes!  Running, jumping, and throwing are just the beginning of this week at camp.  This exciting camp will get kids moving each day through soccer, basketball, and track and field events.  Sports Stars camp staff will incorporate fun competition that will challenge tomorrow’s athletes. Competitors will enjoy spirited team games,  medal ceremonies, and fun with friends! Tyler Whitchurch has over 10 years of coaching experience and currently teaches Physical Education in Louisville, Kentucky.

 

The RUN-on Sentence Club

What do you get when you put together a love for reading and a love for running? The Run-On Sentence club! Join Mrs. Steinbock for a week of reading, running, and fun focused on making healthy choices.  No running experience necessary, just a love of being active!

 

Sewing Fun & Fundamentals

Does your child love to make things? Have they wanted to learn to sew, or take their sewing skills to the next level? This week-long, FULL DAY camp, run by avid sewer Ms. Justus, is designed for both the beginning and veteran sewer. Campers will learn the ins and outs of safely using a sewing machine* as well as valuable hand sewing techniques. From cutting out patterns, to putting on the finishing touches, campers skills and confidence will grow as they create numerous fun projects to use, share and wear. Due to the unique needs of this camp space is limited, “sew” be sure to sign up early. *It is highly recommended that your camper bring a sewing machine from home to use for the week, but the instructor will also provide a few community machines for camper use.

Fluency Fest

Successful readers can not only read words but can comprehend what they are reading.  Having a strong ability to read fluently can help readers’ comprehension. Through repeated reading with hands-on scripts that involve movement, readers will develop their tone, pace, and fluid reading.  Lower School teacher Jamie Steinbock leads students as they practice and reinforce these skills through skits. This is a great summer camp to help readers strengthen and solidify their fluency skills heading into the summer.

 

Unplugged Fun
Grades 3-5

Time to unplug! Get moving and playing without cords to tie you down! Inside we will play board games, card games, and word games! Past favorites include intense games of Clue and hilarious rounds of Apples to Apples. We may be unplugged, but we’ll be more energized than ever!

 

Getting Crafty for the Holidays

Who says you can’t enjoy Halloween in June? Who doesn’t love hot cocoa, even in summer? Join us for a fun week of crafting, as we create memorable holiday art projects. We will handcraft items celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, Winter holidays, Valentine’s Day, and Fourth of July.  We will celebrate the specialness of each holiday with traditional snacks and games!  

 

Digital Visions – The Beginning
Grades 6-8

A beginning class in using the open-source Inkscape drawing program. For kids who like to draw but have never used Inkscape. Every day you will create your own original art and send it home electronically. As you create you will continue to learn more of the program’s tools to express your vision. At the end of the week, you will take home a digital portfolio of your art on a flash drive. Inkscape is freely available for macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems so you can continue your creative adventures.
