Endowment

Like most independent schools and universities, Louisville Collegiate School has an established permanent endowment that supports the school year after year, sustaining vital and unique elements of the Collegiate experience. Each donation to the endowment has been invested. And each year, as the endowment grows, Collegiate is able to factor a prudent portion of the earnings into the operating budget.

As of June 30, 2025, Collegiate’s endowed funds total $13,390,144. While this is small for a school that has been in existence for more than 100 years, we are extremely grateful to the individuals and families who helped grow the endowment by establishing named endowment funds. Each year, the endowment draw has a positive impact on our general budget. The draw for the 2024-25 school year is $495.121.

Main Endowment Fund (Unrestricted Endowment)

Income from unrestricted endowment is available for general purposes. Yearly amounts are determined by the Board Spending Policy. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $6,582.054.

The Mary and Barry Bingham Sr. Scholarship Endowment

Income from this fund provides financial aid for Middle and Upper School students. Bingham Scholars receive awards based on need. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $683,419.

The Helen Kent Longley Endowment Fund

This endowment was established with the proceeds from the first five years of the Collecting Antiques Show and Sale, as well as private gifts. Income is used for the Helen Kent Longley Chair for Distinguished Teaching (15% of a starting teacher’s salary) and the Helen Kent Longley Fund for Program Development are sustained by this fund. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $612,116.

The DeWitt Wallace - Readers Digest Fund, Inc.

Income from this fund provides financial aid for Collegiate students. Terms of the grant call for families of low and moderate-income to be the beneficiaries. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $354,100.

The Project to Build Endowment

In 1996, Mary Collis Hancock ’47 assembled a small group of like-minded alumnae to discuss the state of Collegiate’s Endowment. All shared Mary’s view that the financial future of Louisville Collegiate School could best be assured by growing the school’s endowment fund. Since that time, Mary has prepared a yearly solicitation packet, which is sent to several Collegiate Alumnae. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $367,967.

Collegiate Endowment for Scholarships

Collegiate established this fund under the leadership of Missy Allen as a component of the Collecting / Gala Live Auction. This fund, established to provide financial aid to qualified students, will be the depository over the years for additional gifts for the stated purpose. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $768,222.

The Rounsavall Fund for Excellence in Teaching

This fund was established as part of the Campaign for Collegiate through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Rounsavall, Jr. Income from this fund provides exceptional professional development opportunities for Collegiate faculty. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $249,947.

The Endowment for Minority Financial Aid

Funded as a component of the 2001 / 2002 Annual Giving Campaign, the purpose of this endowment is to provide financial aid for qualified students. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $238,783.

The Mona-Tate and Armin Willig Fund For Teaching Excellence in the Area of Natural Sciences

Created through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Armin Willig and their children, Mona-Tate Willig Powell and Caldwell R. Willig, this fund has been established as part of the school’s permanent endowment to support educational development in the sciences. Teachers may apply for funds to be used to pursue a challenging opportunity for professional development, to work alone or with others to develop new curriculum or teaching methodology, or to develop new ways of using technology in support of teaching and learning. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $224,130.

The Edward E. Ford Upper School Development Fund

Private contributions matching a generous challenge grant of $50,000 from the Edward E. Ford Foundation led to the establishment of this fund. Income is used to support Upper School faculty recruitment with an emphasis on broadening diversity among faculty and for faculty professional development activities. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $173,404.

The Edward E. Ford Faculty Development Fund

This fund was started with a challenge grant made by the E. E. Ford Foundation in 1991 and matched by a small number of Collegiate Board members. Income provides support for faculty professional development activities. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $186,968.

The Library Media Center Endowment Fund

The profit from the 1991 Collecting Antiques Show and Sale was used to establish this fund. Income is used to provide books and other resources for the library. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $142,014.

The Edward E. Ford Scholarship Fund

A challenge grant of $25,000 was matched by a small number of financial institutions and private donors to create the Edward E. Ford Scholarship Fund. Restricted to supporting Upper School students, proceeds from this fund are used to support students who otherwise would be unable to attend Collegiate. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $137,255.

Jane Duffy Comstock Scholarship Fund

Established by a bequest from the estate of Jane D. Comstock ’27 and named in her memory, this fund provides scholarship assistance for students K-12. Students must qualify for aid as determined by standards, practices, and procedures as applied by the Collegiate Financial Aid Committee. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $120,284.

The Katherine McCracken Davis Fund

This award, in memory of Katherine McCracken Davis ’37, former President of the Alumni Board and Board of Directors, recognizes excellence in teaching. Established by her children, the fund seeks to identify and honor teachers at any level and in any subject area who exemplify a commitment to teaching and learning, to children, and to their own continuing education. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $106,876.

The 50th Reunion Scholarship Fund

Created through the generosity of the Class of 1948 to honor their 50th reunion, proceeds from this fund are used to support students in any grade. The class of 1948 encourages succeeding 50th reunion classes to help grow the fund by giving generously and adding their class gift to the fund. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $110,014.

The Nancy Batson Nisbet Rash Fund for Faculty Excellence

Through the generosity of her father, General Dillman A. Rash, and that of other donors, a fund was established to honor the memory of Nancy Batson Nisbet Rash ’58 and her commitment to teaching. The fund provides a grant each year to one teacher to pursue an outstanding professional development opportunity. It serves to support excellence in teaching at Collegiate and benefits not only the teacher but also students. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $85,275.

Martin Family Scholarship

Funds from this scholarship are used to enrich the Collegiate student body by offering financial aid to students of diverse economic backgrounds, as well as diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $102,576.

Castleman Endowment Fund

A gift from Barbara Castlemen ’46 was used to establish this fund for the purpose of enhancing Collegiate’s financial aid program. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $47,055.

Brittiney Wish Bevin '04 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2011 by Sarah Neal Harreld ’04, the income from this fund provides financial assistance for Middle School and Upper School students. The scholarship is meant to honor her commitment to serving the needs of others, as well as her love of Collegiate. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $42,453.

Student Activity Fund

Established by an anonymous grant, the purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to students whose financial circumstances preclude their participation in co-curricular enrichment programs. Specifically, income from the fund will be used to underwrite tuition for summer study, educational travel, and other camps and activities routinely attended by Collegiate students. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $34,695.

Louis M. Smith Writing Award Fund

This fund sponsors annual creative writing awards for Middle School students. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $18,039.

The 25th Reunion Scholarship Fund

Created by the Class of 1985 to honor their 25th reunion. This fund, distributed based on financial need, supports students in any grade. The Class of 1985 encourages succeeding 25th reunion classes to help the fund grow by adding their class gift. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $1,221.

Educational Technology Endowment

Established in 2018 in association with a matching gift from the Edward E. Ford Foundation that established the centers for design and entrepreneurship constructed during the Second Century Campaign. This fund will provide our students and teachers with leading-edge educational technology and equipment upgrades, allowing us to anticipate the ever-changing needs of our students. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $125,897.

Global Citizenship Endowment

Established during the Second Century Campaign, the Geoghegan family led the effort to establish this endowment in support of a major pillar of Collegiate’s mission: Global Citizenship. This fund strengthens our global citizenship commitment to developing globally aware and competent individuals who can live, work, and engage in an interconnected world. The annual distribution from the Global Citizen Endowment allows Collegiate to create, expand, and pursue opportunities for our students and faculty to both experience and be of service to the global community and prepare our students for a world that is growing steadily more complex, intertwined, and competitive. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $163,596.

Holland Professional Development Cultivation Fund

Established in 2018 by Gill and Augusta Holland, this fund supports professional development. Income from this fund will provide annual financial support for faculty and staff professional development opportunities aimed to strengthen the underpinnings of Collegiate’s Strategic Plan’s goal for global citizenship. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $276,533.

Holland Family Endowment

Established in 2023, the Holland Family Endowment supports Louisville Collegiate School’s financial aid program and creates a more sustainable funding approach for tuition assistance. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $1,312,763.

Virginia Perrin Speed Endowment

Established for environmental awareness and campus beautification by Helen Wathen Condon, on the centennial of the school’s founding by her grandmother. The Fund provided an annual award to a Collegiate student or faculty member for the study of or promotion of environmental awareness. Environmental awareness proposals from areas such as fine arts and science are especially welcome. The fair market value as of June 30, 2025, is $61,051.
