College App Lab

Grade 12
9:00-11:30 a.m.
Alexis Perez and Annie Murphy
*max. 15 students
$400/$300 for LCS

Seniors often report that the fall of their senior year is one of the most stressful times of their high school experience because of the college application process. The process is, in many ways, like adding another writing-intensive class to a student’s already tight academic load. Add in extracurricular involvement and various other activities; it is easy to understand how students are overwhelmed by it all.

In response to the pressures and demands of the application process, Collegiate is excited to offer APP LAB, a week-long college application workshop for rising seniors. This workshop gives students an opportunity to complete their applications before school begins. At the workshop, Collegiate’s College Counseling team will:

  • Review application admissions strategy;
  • Guide students through the completion of all sections of the Common Application, a universal application used by over 500 colleges and universities;
  • Engage students in brainstorming activities, provide editing and individual feedback, and assist students in the completion of the main Common Application essay by the end of the workshop;
  • Assist students in developing a strategy for completing all of the supplemental writing required by colleges and universities;
  • Provide guidance and advice on school-specific applications (non-Common Application schools);
  • Advise students on all steps required to complete an application file at the colleges and universities on their list, i.e. submitting test scores, securing recommendation letters, sending supplemental information, and conducting interviews.
  • Independent work between classes will be expected. The session includes an additional one-hour individual meeting where students, parents/guardians, and a counselor can discuss their application plan and strategy.

The cost is $400 (Louisville Collegiate students will receive a $100 discount). To provide a highly individualized experience for each student, we limit enrollment in this course, so please sign up early to reserve your spot. We will generate a waiting list of interested students after we reach maximum enrollment, and we will pull from that waitlist if room becomes available.
